    CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY

    To obtain a Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.) for a particular use and property, the following steps need to be taken:

    1. Complete a Use Registration Permit Application through the Zoning Unit.  This legalizes your proposed use at a particular address.

    2. Complete a Building Permit Application.  On the application, state any alterations that you are planning to make, if any, and that you are applying for a C.O.

    3. Submit three (3) complete sets of floor plans, including basements, with your application.  If the plan requirements listed below are not met, the plans will be rejected.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PLAN SUBMITTALS WHERE A CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY IS REQUIRED

    • You must submit three copies of the plans
    • Do not put any applicant information on the back.
    • The plans must be of professional quality, fully dimensioned and drawn to scale (e.g. ¼” = 1’-0”).
    • The minimum sheet size is 11” x 17”.
    • The maximum sheet size is 34" x 44"  
    • The plans must be black and white or blue prints (no pencil or free hand drawings will be accepted). 
    • The plans will be double line drawings of the entire building.
    • All the rooms will be labeled as to their use. (e.g. bedroom, kitchen, office, etc.)
    • Plans must show the following
      • All locations and sizes of doors, windows, stairways, corridors, etc.
      • Ceiling types and height of the rooms.
      • Wall and partition types (e.g.  8” cement masonry block wall, plaster ceilings, etc.) and locations .
